Goals & Priorities

RANK CHOICE VOTING

We have a unique opportunity to discuss and deploy rank choice voting (RCV) in Snohomish County, and would encompass greater outreach to community members and stakeholders in a nonpartisan way. It would also empower voters by not narrowing their choices for representation. RCV is already being utilized in various areas across the county, including Washington State. Seattle will begin using this in 2027, with other areas such as Vancouver, WA , and the campuses of the University of Washington, Seattle University School of Law, and Western Washington University.

REVIEW AND SOLCIT FEEDBACK

Our county has seen a significant change in its makeup of community members over the past decade: socio-economically, culturally, and age-wise. It’s important to review what we currently had in place in our charter, and examine if changes, additions, or adjustments needs to be addressed while looking and planning towards the next 10 years.

EFFICIENCIES

As our county continues to grow, we have also seen services scaled back for a number of reasons. This has created inefficiencies in trying to work or communicate across more than one governmental entity. The Commission should solicit input and feedback from stakeholders on the inefficiencies they’re experiencing, and troubleshoot how we can resolve them. This would also be a good opportunity to work with “Your Washington” to address this on both the consumer side and the government support staff side as well.
